Hutton Vale Farm Shiraz 2017

Share

There is plenty of history in the Hutton Vale Farm vineyard. It was first planted from cuttings off Henschke’s Mount Edelstone over fifty years ago and fruit from the vineyard has also scored 99 Points elsewhere with current wines made by Kym Teusner. This vintage is a big style of Eden Valley Shiraz, still with the delicious spicy detail often seen in the region but also matched up with lashings of dark fruit flavour and oak.

Deeply coloured, the fruits are ripe and fleshy – blackberry and black cherry aromas are lifted by liquorice and terracotta with generous coffee grounds scented oak in support. The palate follows with a dense core of dark fruit flavours plus attractive salt bush, Bay leaf and peppery spice. Sinewy tannins underpin what is quite a complete package before a long and fine finish, with a little hint of dried tobacco to close. You get the feeling these wines are only going to get better over time.
