Credaro Kinship Chardonnay 2025

Share

Most wine lovers are extremely familiar with the big names in Margaret River, but what is exciting is that there is plenty more where they came from. This is a winery which has proven, over recent vintages, that the excitement from this region is far from over. This wine spent nine months in a mix of French barriques and puncheons, with 25% of them new. While the glories of the great 2023 vintage have been trumpeted far and wide, it looks like we might have another cracker with 2025. The fruit used here comes from a range of sub-regions across Margaret River, including the famed Wilyabrup. Excellent value. Yellow gold in colour, this is a powerful style of Chardonnay with a dusty, almost sawdust nose, from the oak integration, sitting alongside notes of stone fruits, honeycomb, peaches, freshly baked lemon pie, grapefruits, lemongrass, ginger, minerals and a touch of gunflint. There is a gorgeous texture here and while the wine is of medium length at the moment, everything is in place for this to improve further. The intensity is maintained throughout and on the palate, we see notes of oatmeal emerging. Enjoy this over the next eight years.

Ken was born and bred in Brisbane, Queensland. He had a non-trendy, perfectly happy childhood, in a family convinced alcohol meant instant condemnation to Hades. But a break fishing on the Great Barrier Reef, and some good wine, started a serious obsession that eventually took over. It did not stop Ken being chastised later for drinking Pol champagne, disgusted he’d drink anything made by a Cambodian dictator. Now, Ken mostly writes on wine, champagne and spirits for various newspapers, magazines and books, but is perhaps best known for his work in The Courier Mail. He also has a little sideline writing on cigars, fishing, travel and food. When not writing, fly-fishing for trout in NZ or bonefish on the flats of Cuba, travelling or smoking cigars, he is no doubt following a variety of sporting teams – the occasionally glorious Queensland Reds rugby, the dysfunctional Washington Redskins, the dodgy Arsenal and especially revels in the world restored to its proper axis with the return of the Ashes to their rightful home.
