Like the Citrea Riesling, the Foothills Pinot is a little shy at first, but it comes alive after a few hours. There’s mouth-puckering sour red cherry in abundance and some rich black cherry, with prettiness from violets and savouriness from fresh beetroot and stems, characters that are vivid to the nose and palate. On the second night, everything has come together perfectly and the wine is ready and the wine is ready to shine. It has enough acid and structure to help it age for at least another five years, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it could go for a lot longer.
