Leconfield Coonawarra Old Vines Riesling 2025

Share

What a stunner. Paul Gordon and Dr Richard Hamilton provide a masterclass in why we should be paying a lot more attention to Coonawarra Riesling, especially when it is delivered off old vines. Riesling is Coonawarra’s flagship white and here we see it in full flight: deeply concentrated, intense, with complexity-plus. The original 1974 riesling vines exude a hold from the first sniff, riffing off aromas of lime in its many guises, cordial through to zest, with Thai basil, white pepper, honeysuckle aromatics and hints of spicy ginger. There’s a textural richness, a real tapestry of flavour to enjoy, tied to a taut lemony acidity and drive as it moves across the tongue with flavours of lime and citrus, apple, pear and ginger. What a great drinking pleasure.
