Longview Vineyard Saturnus Nebbiolo 2019

Share

You have got to feel sorry for anyone that takes on nebbiolo. This is not an easy grape and is tough work in the vineyard and the winery needing TLC all the way from budburst through to bottling. But when it all comes together the wines can absolutely sing, like this vintage of Saturnus from Longview Vineyard. The Longview vineyard in Macclesfield is in a slightly warmer part of the Adelaide Hills which suits nebbiolo helping to soften what can be eyewatering acidity. Mid cherry red it opens up with pretty and fragrant fruits – pure raspberry, dark earth and floral notes with a good mix of sweet and savoury aromas. It is then dry, firm and concentrated with layers of anise, spice and sour cherry fruits. It’s tannic too but also quite long and silky so a crowd pleaser for anyone new to the variety but also with the depth of fruit for nebbiolo nuts. It’s super impressive and also has the structure to drink well over the medium term.
