Lou Miranda 1898 Centenarian Old Vine Shiraz Mataro 2021

Share

A great Barossa vintage and fruit from the dry grown Angel’s Block at Lyndoch, which was planted in 1898 and includes a few remaining bush vines, combine for a stellar and quite classic Barossa gem, a blend of Shiraz and Mataro. Harvesting the Shiraz took place on March 3rd, with the Mataro more than a month later, on April 8th. The two varieties were handled separately until blending prior to bottling. Maturation was for three years in American oak, 60% of which was new. 2,200 bottles. Deep red and maroon in colour, there is exemplary oak integration here. We have notes of mulberries, plums, licorice, spices and herbs, cassis, blackberries, soy and dark chocolate. Supple, seamless and seductive, with excellent balance and a lingering finish, the wine has serious intensity which runs the full length. Early complexity is evident. Enjoy over the next fifteen to twenty years.
