Mayford John Warwick Chardonnay 2019

Share

The Alpine Valleys is not far from Beechworth in North-East Victoria, one of the homes of great Australian chardonnay, and there are definitely some similarities to be found between the best wines from these regions – subtlety, detail and finesse. Pale golden in colour, this is a powerful and broad shouldered chardonnay showcasing plenty of effort in the winery as well as high quality fruit. The savoury elements are most obvious to begin – oat bran and almond aromas from oak ferment with spicy oak also playing a strong role. The palate is then full-flavoured – nectarine, citrus and pear fruits with the key element being a long, zippy acid line that brings the fruit into sharp focus before launching into a strong finish. It’s a little tight and oaky right now but promises something special with time in bottle.
