When you see Pinot Nero on an Italian wine label, think Pinot Noir. Same, same. The cool Trentino area brings out the grape’s tannic energy which makes this wine a particularly good accompaniment to food, I’m thinking charcuterie platter. Undergrowth, earth and savoury salami notes mix with red berry aromas. A striking introduction to a dark fruited, woodsy spiced, savoury influenced, well-structured young Pinot. The palate is an engaging mix of cranberry, red cherry, redcurrant, tomato leafiness and background dried herbs. Sinewy tannins bring extra focus and chew. It’s firm, which is why that charcuterie platter is looking pretty attractive.
