Bright, vibrant aromatics mirror the hot purple-pink hue of this wine. It calls to mind the wildflowers that freckle the land, welcoming the vines of Wadandi Country out of winter dormancy. Plum. Underscore. Exclamation mark. Bold. A defining thread here, and thankfully a very welcome one. Ume plum, salty plum, plum skin, even a nod to plum wine. That slight indulgence is lifted by freeze dried raspberries and dried quandong. There’s a faint touch of orange oil too, likely from the 3% Viognier. Fermented in cement, the fruit is the clear highlight, making this a perfect red for long lunches and seasonal salads. In the mouth, it follows the aromatics but leans savoury. Roasted gum nuts, crushed ancient gravels and more of those salty plum notes, with a chew of cranberry. It’s that just-picked fruit energy. Tannins arrive late, gentle, dry and bark-like, with a flicker of dried sticks and wild blackberry bush through the finish. Drink young and soak up its excitement.
