The Grampians region is becoming a more popular area for a different expression of Grenache than we’re used to. Here, alcohol is usually lower than in warmer climes, with a delicate touch and lots of acid. The Mount Stapylton is a great example of this newer style. The aromas are intense and charming, with lovely notes of violets, red cherry, raspberry, confectionery and spice – all still very much in the primary realm. There’s an abundance of fruit sweetness and a juiciness to the wine on the palate which made not only great as a sipper but also with food; something not too rich and heavy would pair really well.
