Parker Coonawarra Estate Kidman Block 2019

Share

A new, old vine shiraz addition to Parker Coonawarra Estate is a little unusual at this winery where traditions run deep – they must like it, a lot. Although shiraz vines that are over 50 years old from the Kidman Block is a very good place to start. It’s unmistakably a cool climate shiraz with spicy, red raspberry fruits. But then the old vines take hold and deliver rich, darker fruits with blackberry and mulberry equally on display, and all supported by plenty of French oak that is forceful but fits the overall wine. A dense palate follows – rich fruit and oak again deliver great impact and continue over a long finish supported by quite firm tannins. It’s robust and young right now, and like all the top Parker wines it’s worth putting down for a decade or more to enjoy at its best.
