Schild Estate Edgar Schild Old Bush Vine Grenache 2020

Share

From Kleeman vines planted in 1916 and it’s remarkable to think of the things (both heroic and horrific) that were happening on the world stage whilst they were going into the ground. I’m excited to taste it before I’ve cracked the top. The fruit shows its age but the wine is vital. It’s deeply layered with marvelous concentration and would certainly have some stories to tell could it speak. Little flashes of baking spice prick up from the solid palate of cherry juice and stewed plum, giving the wine its verve. The tongue is blanketed in soft and soothing textures as if to say ‘take your time, you’ve got a ways to go yet’ – this is definitely a wine to sit on and mull over.
