Riversdale Estate Crater Chardonnay 2021

Ah, that scent! It grabs you and simply won’t let you go, not that you want it to. Complex flinty aromas, some lemon citrus, chalk, white peach, pear, a light dash of hazelnutty oak. The palate continues on cue, built on fine-etched, sherbet-like acidity. It is all about composure with this wine, strength and layered flavours and structure. A fellow wine writer once described a fine Tasmanian Chardonnay as boasting “ocean freshness.” That memorable, evocative term comes to mind to describe the beauty of this wine perfectly. Boasting impressive drive, the wine rolls out through the palate producing that buttery smoothness that works so well with the citrus and clean mineral tang. A long, fresh, clean, penetrating finish.
