This wine is a tribute to the founder of Mountadam – David Wynn. It is from the oldest Shiraz vines on the estate at one of the highest points in the Eden Valley, which is home to some of the finest and most detailed South Australian Shiraz.
2015 was an excellent Eden Valley vintage and this wine shows it. It is deeply coloured and flavoured and like many of the wines from 2015 is already showing a touch of bottle age complexity. There are concentrated and complex blackberry and mulberry primary fruits plus pepper and bayleaf underpinned by sweet but balanced oak. It is then dry and mouthfilling, with multiple layers of berry fruits plus a touch of tobacco all matched by supple tannins and a lingering finish. This is already drinking well now with a lamb roast although it absolutely has more aging potential.
