Oliver’s Taranga Chica Mencía Rosé 2022

Mencía is a Spanish variety hailing from the northwest that shows juicy fruit with a lovely savoury, spicy, herbal undertone. The label tells us the fruit for this rosé was picked by the cellar door crew on Valentine’s Day. Perhaps appropriately, it is stunningly pink, think lush pink roses. It smells like watermelon and strawberry sorbet, pink birthday cake topped with musk lifesavers. Pink in appearance and aroma, it might have people shaking their heads to a sweet rosé. But then it is dry. Refreshingly so, with a rosewater sensation and blood orange zesty acidity. A delightful drop that had me craving a sunny spring day. Serve with prawn and mint Vietnamese rice paper rolls.
