Who is Brioni, and what is her blend, you ask? Brioni Oliver is one of the 6th generation family members behind this wine business. The blend consists of 71% Touriga, 19% Grenache, 10% Mencia, and the result? Well, it’s a juicy little Iberian delight. Purple fruits, blueberries, cranberry tartness, black plum skin, dried spring florals, cinnamon and clove, crushed aniseed, dark choc cherry ripe, and oodles of crushed wet stone minerality beckon on the nose. A simmering meaty note hums in the background, hinting that this really would go down well with some top-notch charcuterie. The palate is driven by lifted stone minerality, with refreshing acidity and plenty of chalky tannins. A wine that fits neatly in the pocket of crunchy and fresh red, with a bit more meat on its bones, complexity and weight than some of the other crunchy reds out there. A little silken vanilla on the finish.
