Paralian Wines Blewitt Springs Shiraz 2020

This is a fascinating and quite unusual interpretation of McLaren Vale which delivers delicacy and detail as opposed to the traditionally power-packed regional style. There is a real aromatic lift which shows a distinct nod to the Northern Rhone Valley. My first thoughts were beautiful bouquet, and you don’t often say that about Australian Shiraz. There is also superb complexity – fragrant spice, earth, blackcurrant, violets, and black olive aromas. It leads to a dry and immediately savoury palate which while quite supple also has some bite thanks to juicy acidity and stalky tannins. Flowing dark fruits again are topped by black olive and spice before a long and quite elegant finish. Lots to love in this wine which is also exceptional value.
