Penfolds Bin 311 Chardonnay 2020

Share

This modern Australian style of Chardonnay, made with fruit from Tasmania, Piccadilly in the Adelaide Hills and Henty, opens with bright, pure fruits and restrained oak. White peach and nectarine are matched by reserved oak given added depth by oatmeal barrel ferment complexity. It is dry, midweight and surprisingly tart, the palate lean and angular driven by a core of firm acidity combined with delicate fruit, although some creaminess of texture adds much needed weight. Eight months aging in French oak barriques, 41% new, does provide some depth to the palate although the wine remains an early drinking proposition.
