Port Phillip Estate Pinot Noir Shiraz 2021

This might seem an odd couple of grapes to combine but veteran winelovers will remember just how successful this blend can be. It fell out of fashion, so nice to see a revival. Often we saw regions combined as well, or just a dollop of Pinot added, but, here it is, a 50/50 split and all from the Red Hill sub-region at Mornington Peninsula. The different varieties were vinified separately, each with a small percentage of whole bunches, followed by maturation for nine months in old French oak barriques, before blending and bottling. The colour here is a slightly pale and yet vibrant crimson. The nose opens with some earthy, slightly rustic notes intertwined with delicious fruit flavours, notably strawberries and cranberries. Also some gentle chocolate hints and dry vegetation. Love the seductive texture and the early complexity with a seamless structure, very silky tannins and a long and lingering finish plus fresh acidity throughout. Drink any time over the next five to six years
