This is sourced off the Yarra Valley’s first close planted vineyard created by the winemaker’s parents in 1989 – all up, 2100 vines on .25ha. The wine offers a strong argument for close planting which can produce smaller berries and bunches and give overall better crop load balance. This is one impressively complex and exciting wine. There is a seamless integration of fruit, tannin and acidity. It just comes across with almost effortless balance, smooth, velvety and yet with power. Black berries, rich spices including allspice, aniseed and vanilla. Has Yarra Valley succulence written all over it, a quiet richness.
