Wynns Coonawarra Estate Coonawarra Shiraz 2021

Share

There is no more famous name in Coonawarra than Wynns and while the region may be world renowned for its Cabernet, a lot of winelovers forget that it originally built its reputation on the back of great Shiraz and is still making some crackers. This may be their standard, and they have been making it since 1952, but it is drinking beautifully (a great vintage for the region does not hurt). Dark maroon in colour, this is pure plum, redcurrants, mulberries, cloves and aniseed. Nicely balanced, there are also hints of spices and olives on the palate and the merest touch of oak. Serious intensity here, with plenty of firm tannins with terrific length. This is a great advert for the vintage and is drinking way above its price. It will be even better in ten years, when it is going to look like the most ridiculous value buy.
