Quealy Pinot Grigio 2019

Pinot grigio often gets a bad wrap. Yes there are oceans of it coming over from Italy that is fairly simple but when done right there is no better wine for Summer drinking. This example is from Kathleen Quealy, who helped pioneer this variety three decades ago, so if you are going to try a pinot grigio make it this one.

From the Mornington Peninsula it is a bright and perfumed example of the style thanks to its cool climate origins plus a gentle touch in the winery. There is not much colour to it but that is expected and the wine delivers beautiful fruit – classic pears but with an attractive tropical guava edge. It’s then dry and juicy but also retains some delicacy and finesse over a long and tangy finish. Match it up with spaghetti marinara for a taste sensation.
