Rowlee Single Vineyard Gewürtztraminer 2024

Gewürztraminer can be divisive. With its hedonistic perfume and rich, oily texture, you either love it or hate it. I think perhaps, this one might just turn the tide towards the lovers though… Initially the aromas are textbook Gewürtz: elderflower, rosewater and freshly peeled lychees. But as the chill fades, the wine opens into the savoury spiciness of Australian wildflowers and fresh hay. There’s warm cinnamon buns, fresh from the oven and a hint of lime juice cordial. With a balanced alcohol of 12.3%, it completely avoids the warmth that often thwarts the best intentions of Gewürztraminer. A subtle hint of residual sugar (3g/L) adds silkiness to the texture while the gentle phenolics remind me of a crunchy Nashi pear. Refreshing nectarine-like acidity ensures a beautifully poised finish.
