Salomon Estate Finniss River Shiraz 2021

Share

Dr Bert Salomon is renowned for his white wines out of Austria’s Wachau Valley, where the River Danube heads west from Vienna. He also loves the classic red wines of South Australia, this Shiraz from his Southern Hemisphere enterprise, the Salomon Estate vineyards, set beside a classic Australian gum tree lined creek facing the Southern Ocean, where the Sea Eagle vineyard is a high block tempered by the ocean’s cool afternoon southerlies. Polar opposite of his Austrian homeland family vineyards. The 2021 vintage is now lauded as a great season, showing a more elegant style, subtly different to its 2020 predecessor. Here it is more compact with minerally notes across the nose and palate, white peppery as well, even a delicate mint leaf element. Complex wine without weight, heaps of interest and understated power, yet precise and downright delicious.
