Fruit is from the Sugarloaf Creek Vineyard and matured in French barriques of which 45% was new oak for 48 months. The significant oak aging and cooperage throws some vanilla and lilac tones, with dense plum, chocolate and blueberries too. A hint of cola and coconut, this is rich and weighted with intense oak spice, ripe fruit and a briar of woodsy herbs. The wine is inky and potent with layers of cooked berries, sweet spices and luscious chocolate tones. Some cassis and blackberry soother warmth too. Drink now or cellar for 8-10 years. Ideal with cheddar and sweet onion jam.
Shanteh cut her teeth at Sydney’s Award-Winning Quay restaurant where she worked for over a decade and was Head Sommelier from 2018 till 2022. She has been nominated for the Good Food Guide Sommelier of the Year award on three occasions and claims that her experience as a Len Evans scholar as one of the highlights of her career. Shanteh hosts her own weekly podcast ‘Over A Glass’ with the Deep in the Weeds Network and spends her time writing for various publications and judging at numerous wine shows across the country.
