Seppeltsfield Watervale Riesling 2020

When old is new. This label is like ‘wow’, eye catching and bold but of course it is so much more complex than that. The vibrant blue combined with the crown and star gives a nod back to nineteenth century liquor bottles and the history that surrounds this iconic winery. A perfect label to present in a restaurant or in a bottle shop. It would definitely catch my eye!

I wasn’t aware of this iconic wineries foray from fortifieds into table wines so was excited to see what they could do. The 2020 Watervale Riesling does not disappoint. It is everything I love about young Riesling, with a lifted aromatic perfume showing lime leaf and green pear with a note of candied peel and some pretty delicate florals. A dry style showing fine acid tension and mouth-watering finish, with a lick of pithy texture on the palate. Made in the typical leaner Australian Riesling style, showing fruit purity, without the over extracted petrol notes you can see in young Riesling, a total bugbear of mine.
