Marselan is a grape variety whose parent grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache. This is my first time tasting one. Yes, even critics still get the joy of trying wines for the first time. Here, it shows blackcurrant juice, blackberry jubes, prune, blood plum and violets. It’s juicy, plush, moreish and oddly cute — not a particularly useful descriptor, but it fits. There’s something Dolcetto-or-Mencia-like about it. Maybe it’s the ease. In the mouth, the fruit stays soft and generous, with gentle, ripe tannins and more fresh prunes. With no oak and production entirely in stainless steel, the fruit really shines. Lots to love. Eat with pork sausage.
