Opaque with a purple rim. Dusty oak melds with coffee grounds, dark chocolate, plum and blackberry jam with an undercurrent campfire ash, brown spice and gentle peppercorn. A swirl of the glass allows the fruit sweetness to fill into the savouriness making it all fit together. There’s class and restraint to the aromas, and the palate follows suit with a coolness to the fruit. Blackberry and black plum make way for dark chocolate, baking spices, and ground coffee before fine, grainy tannins frame it up for an elegant and poised finish. There’s richness and concentration here, but it’s well controlled, precise, and long drawn.
