St Mary’s Bells & Whistles Shiraz 2021

The fruit here hails from the team’s Penola vineyard, planted in 1985, with the wine then enjoying a year and half’s maturation in French oak. A deep, dark red, this is a warm and comforting style, if slightly rustic. There are notes of leather, cloves, black fruits, dried herbs and chocolate. There is good focus and an enticing freshness on the palate with decent length and fine tannins. This is an attractive style from the region and should provide pleasure for at least the next six to eight years.
