Star Lane Merlot 2019

Beechworth is one of the great wine regions to explore. While the town is only small it seriously over-delivers on the wine front with uniquely savoury wine styles thanks to its unique soils and the cooling elements from the nearby Australian Alps, which help it to turn out exceptional white and red wines.

This is a big merlot. It starts off a little on the elegant side with subtle red currant and cedar fruit aromas. But then on the palate it is quite something else – generous, rich and mouthfilling fruits with a dusting of meaty, spicy complexity. The fruit is fleshy and sweet too which is all supported by quite sturdy and drying tannins. It’s not a classic merlot style but is sure to appeal to fans of savoury Beechworth reds.
