Taltarni Pyrenees Estate Shiraz 2018

Established in 1969, Taltarni is one of Central Victoria’s oldest wineries. That long history dictates this wineries quite traditional style. They are not flashy, slick wines with a style based more on understated power and being at their best with a little, or a long, time in the cellar. This vintage of the ‘Estate’ Shiraz is a good example which also won World’s Greatest Shiraz according to Winestate Magazine in 2020.

Deeply coloured, it opens with brooding aromas of blueberry, blackberry, dried herbs and spice, plus subtle sweetness from extended time in oak. Dry and full flavoured, there is a delicious mix of fleshy, ripe dark fruits with some baked earth also coming through as does dried spices right on a long finish. Tannins are supple and well integrated to provide good support although alcohol warmth detracts a little from what is a delicious Victorian Shiraz.
