Taltarni Reserve Shiraz Cabernet 2019

Share

This is a remarkable wine and a beautiful example of why shiraz and cabernet sauvignon can be a perfect combination with a combination of subtlety, power and structure in an almost Bordeaux-like package. Deeply coloured, it starts a little shy, no doubt thanks to an extended time in French oak, some of it new. There is an array of dark fruits – mainly blackberry and blackcurrant – topped by layers of earth and spice with a touch of soy sauce. It is followed by a dry, muscular although quite reserved palate with a powerful core of dark fruits matched by earthy, savoury stock complexity. There is fantastic overall balance, structure and fruit focus making this stylish wine built for the cellar so don’t be in any hurry to crack one open as it has a long life ahead.
