This is made up of fruit from the Kayena and Rosevears Vineyards in the north of the Tamar Valley. Restrained aromas of dark cherry, raspberry, red currant, and nutmeg first off, along with a whisper of smoke. Some air brings out more savoury aromas of tilled earth and subtle forest floor. The palate is cool, svelte and elegant with a velvet-like texture. Red currant and dark cherry again, with nutmeg and earth lingering beneath, all gliding through the mouth within a linear and slightly taut frame thanks to fine grained cherry tannins and fresh acidity. There’s a good even feel through the finish with an attractively bitter edge. It calls out for a plate of duck confit. Understated, poised and charming.
