Rob and Julie Symonds focus on sustainability and grow a variety of grapes on their McLaren Vale farm. This merlot, cabernet sauvignon and mataro blend smells like fruits of the forest and the “soft eating licorice” spirited to me by my grandfather from the secret lolly stash in his wardrobe. Medium bodied, it has lovely ripe tannins that add a savoury edge to flavours of fresh blood plums, ripe red cherries and a hint of fresh mint. This is a wine to share with your bestie, sipped while watching your favourite film and savoured with a big bowl of something warm and comforting – perhaps bangers and mash with caramelised onion gravy.
