The Adelaide Hills takes on Margaret River at its own SBS game and shows itself to be a mighty strong competitor. Take note, Margaret River. Full of sophistication, it shows some pretty astute winemaking with full solids fermentation in barriques and puncheons followed by seven months maturation with regular stirring. The Sauvignon-led blend (75-25%) combines clean, brisk acidity with a middle palate of concentrated citrus, green apple and gooseberry with bergamot, lemon peel, pea shoot. It’s a seamless, smooth ride but that finish! That is one long, lasting embrace closing with green apple, herbs and gentle, aromatic spices. This is alive, fresh, vital and vibrant and should age well in the medium term.
