Varney Wines Entrada Verdelho 2021

I know what you are thinking – Verdelho right? And you haven’t seen a Verdelho for a long time. It is a grape variety with a bit of a chequered history in Australia but that’s because it was treated like a workhorse by many wineries for years with few actually having a good shot at turning out something serious. So, while expectations were not high, this wine blew them out of the water. And a quick look into the winemaker confirmed a good touch with the variety, with Alan Varney spending a vintage in Portgual, where there is plenty of Verdelho……

Very pale in colour, it is a beautifully fresh and vibrant style of Verdelho with gently aromatic fruit salad and melon aromas which are pure and precise. The palate follows along the same line with bright yet elegant flavours with some attractive textural weight and grip which continues through to a long and crisp finish.
