Varney Wines McLaren Vale Grenache 2022

Share

Premium fruit from Blewitt Springs and Seaview is written all over this wine although it still retains the casual Varney flair. Layers of primary fruit slowly build from black cherry, fruits of the forest and new leather with a touch of stalk and an intriguing hint of dried rose. Good density of flavour follows with weighty tannins (for Grenache) as it gives up dark licorice, meat locker and gently spicy flavours with a distinctly savoury backbone of hot rocks and dusty earth. A bit of structural grip to finish suggests this needs a couple of years to flesh out.
