Sangiovese, and a couple of other Mediterranean/ southern Euro varieties are making quite a name for themselves out of the Heathcote region, which traditionally has been home to very distinctive styles of Shiraz. One thing is obvious across the gamut of reds, and that is a recognisable intensity in fruit power, without necessarily fighting in heavyweight divisions. And so it is here, with mid-depth dark cherry colours and captivating fragrant aromas of florals and pretty Australian. bush like. This all slippery-dips into a wave of vibrant, dark cherry flavours, and more importantly a wave of palate structurals led by lively acidity and coating, earthy, minerally tannins. Sangiovese with proper identity. Very smart.
