King Valley is Australia’s heartland for Prosecco with its cooler climate and rising altitudes perfect for the retention of the fruit freshness at the centre of the style. Here it fits under a Limited Release program, which fortunately is fulfilled in terms of quality. It has the faintest of straw colour, with aromas of freshly cut green pear with a squeeze of lemon juice. This may sound a tad simple to begin, but there is more going on the deeper you look. Like white peach and a custard bun like character, as if venturing into more elite sparkling wine complexities, a result no doubt of the addition of reserve base wines up to three years of age, providing some depth to the palate with a delicate balancing between youthful acidity and a softening top up of expedition liquor. Not at all a simpleton in the Prosecco oeuvre, and all the more satisfying because of it.
