Vinatero Old Vine Grenache 2020

Share

If you are looking for a big, old fashioned grenache then maybe this wine is not for you. But if you want to explore the more modern styles for this grape variety then step this way. Fruit from vines planted back in 1947 was given the Rolls-Royce treatment including wild yeast ferment and some whole bunch too. It has crafted a wine that is a bit shy for now but also a beautifully pure expression of grenache, with pinot noir-like subtlety. Baked cherry and raspberry aromas are given a little lift thanks to some earthy complexity. The palate is then dry and fleshy with fruit that is generous and balanced; layers of mulberry plus an edge of new leather and cigarbox from old oak. It’s long and youthful but also has enough tannins underneath to help it match up with Mongolian lamb over the next 3 or 4 years.
