Harvey Vineyard was planted in 2019 on a slope overlooking Port Phillip Bay. The site’s northern aspect, bay-wind protection and warmer, sandy soils let the fruit ripen three to four weeks earlier than Main Ridge’s elevated sites.There’s lots of woody spice to start — ground nutmeg, cassia bark, and clove sit above raspberry and mashed strawberry where the white pepper spice is unlocked. There’s some subtle stemminess and woodsmoke adding interest along with a bite of blood orange and some floral tones. The palate is light-bodied, lifted and supple, holding notes akin to the perfume, with a lovely line of fine, chalky tannins framing things up amply and some red-fruited acidity resulting in a fresh finish. This is a lovely, approachable Mornington Pinot, while still exhibiting perfume, elegance and complexity.
