Vinea Marson Reserve Viognier 2017

Share

There are very few viogniers in Australia that have the power and depth of this wine. But it does not come easy and has clearly taken plenty of work in the vineyard and the winery to get to this point. But at four years of age, when many viogniers are falling over, this one is just getting started.

Bright medium gold, there is impressive complexity immediately on display without the usual pungency often seen with this variety. Pear, custard apple and delicate floral aromas are well matched by high quality, spicy new French oak and homemade nougat barrel ferment complexity. There is sophistication at every turn. On the palate viognier’s varietal signature becomes more apparent thanks to apricot and florals with beautiful purity and textural richness offset by gentle acidity before a long and generous finish with oak playing its part perfectly. Unbelievably, it still feels young and energetic suggesting this will drink well for some time to come.
