100% Garnacha taken from 70-year-old vines rooted in granite soils at 850 metres in El Real de San Vicente. There’s a lovely Burgundian sensibility to the aromatics. Black cherry, baked plum, decaying leaves, cinnamon spice, and a glimmer of au jus. Some black pepper notes with air. The restraint draws you in, commanding your focus. Medium body to the palate, with excellent verve and a cooling mineral feel – baked red plum, stewed strawberry, wilted red rose, and red cherry lift. The balance of intensity and coolness elevates this wine. It’s very good. Some chalky tannin drive sits in perfect balance, coupling with peppy acidity to frame the fruit notes long through the palate. 14.5% abv and holding it so well. This is classy and fine, understated and complex. For those lamenting the price of red burgundy, buy this. Delicious.
