Welkin by Aphelion Grenache 2021

Share

A deceptively serious Grenache here from Rob at Aphelion wines. At first there are some beautifully bright fruits – red cherry, cranberry and baked earth with plenty of whole bunch stalky spice – it seems like it is built for a Summer picnic. But then look deeper and a darker, more savoury side comes into view. Jubey dark fruits and liquorice plus Chinese Five Spice flavours provide a savoury kick with surprising power and depth of fruit over gentle, sandy tannins. There is almost a smart Cotes du Rhone feel here and it’s a seriously impressive offering for a drink young style. Fire up some lamb tagine to see this wine at its best.
