From one the few companies that really stuck with Grenache through the thick and thin, it is fantastic to see confident wines coming out like this that celebrate the rise of this variety. Great Grenache manages to both offer great generosity of fruit but also teases you to go deeper in search of its more savoury and rustic depths, which this wine achieves.
Bright deep cherry red in colour, its enticing and engaging from the get go – cranberry and red liquorice with earthy and ground spices sitting just below. It then boasts rich and fleshy fruits on the palate – more baked dark fruits now with aged meat and spice adding detail. The generosity of open-knit, welcoming and heartwarming fruits is impressive with adequate but supple tannins providing backbone. It won’t last forever but this is a serious Barossa Grenache to enjoy over the medium term.
