Wow, there is such evocative aromatic intensity in this local example of Grüner Veltliner – a variety that hails from Austria and that Riesling lovers are embracing in Australia. Alive with apple blossoms, lemons and limes straight off the tree, crisp slices of honeydew melon. All this is balanced by Grüner’s trademark spicy white pepper and a crushed seashell minerality. It’s leaner and quite steely on the palate with well integrated acidity. In the European style, the fruit is not quite as expressive as it is aromatically, showing restrained citrus and stone fruit, with savoury hay and a hint of salinity. It’s all about elegance and finesse.
