From Alkina’s superior Shiraz sites, mostly on limestone. Handpicked, sorted, and naturally fermented with 50–80% whole bunch. Larger parcels matured in concrete tulips, smaller in large old oak foudres. Certified organic and biodynamic. Here we have a wine that sends the right message about Barossa Shiraz – elegant, lifted and detailed with a cooling minerality. Restrained blackberry and black cherry open to dried oregano, black olive, black pepper, iodine, grilled meat, graphite and hazelnut. The palate is juicy yet poised, with blackberry and black cherry core, black pepper, crushed hazelnut and dried herb accents. Fine-but-firm, sappy tannins and juicy acidity carry it long. Rhône in sensibility, Barossa in address. This is an exciting release.
