The Balgownie Limited Release wines sit between their affordable and more premium offerings, yet the quality on display is always closer to the latter. The 2023 Shiraz is a slightly different entity to the 2024: juicier, a tad prettier with violet aromas, chewy tannins, yet still rich and concentrated. There’s loads of black, red and blue fruit (mulberry, strawberry and blueberry), as well as baking spices, bramble and a touch of cedar. The 2023 goes incredibly well with food, whether it’s a rich and spicy curry or a steak and roasted vegetables, and it’ll cellar for at least another five or so years.
Brendan is a Melbourne-based writer, filmmaker, playwright and composer. Brendan was a finalist for 2024 Wine Communicator Awards in the 'Best Published Feature Article or Wine Column' category. He has completed the WSET Level 3 course (gaining a Distinction) and has a passion for small producers of wine, beer and spirits. He is also the co-editor of 'I'm Not a Film Star: David Bowie as Actor' for Bloomsbury Academic.
