The vintage conditions were all over the place yet the end result for the Grandmaster was still terrific. A concentrated colour of purple-tinged ruby announces the wine, with charming aromas of black cherry, sour cherry, strawberry, earth and tea leaves. While the oak is discernible on the juicy palate, it has a bit more poise and elegance than the Master (and slightly less alcohol), leading to a more refined and balanced drinking experience, which is definitely aided by decanting the wine when young or letting it rest for a few more years so all the pieces can move into place. It would pair extremely well with Peking duck or even a mildly spicy curry.
