Rowlee Single Vineyard Arneis 2024

Share

Arneis is a variety originating from Piedmont in north-west Italy, and like many Italian varieties, is proving its ability to thrive in some of Australia’s cooler wine regions; such as this delight from Orange in NSW. Initially it’s delicate – the aromas conjure summer blossoms, citrus pith and Nashi pear. After the subtle aromas, the first sip reveals a surprising concentration, with vibrant white peaches, lemongrass, a spritz of pink grapefruit and river rock minerality. Fermentation was split between stainless steel and some older oak barrels, the latter adds texture whilst not overwhelming the light, fresh style. Arneis pairs really well with a wide variety of foods. My pick was a grilled squid and chilli pasta abundantly dressed with lemon juice and fruity olive oil.

She completed the Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) Diploma in 2016 and became a certified WSET Educator the following year. She now juggles a number of roles including teaching people about wine, curating wines lists for restaurants and bars, judging in Australian wine shows and, of course, writing.
